In this video, Denver divorce lawyer Jason Wolfe breaks down some of the considerations that will be made in the division of a family or closely-held business in a divorce.

Video Transcript:

Assets and debts are subject to division as long as they are marital assets and debts. A closely-held business would be arguably a marital asset. Now, whether or not all of that business would be a marital asset or maybe just one spouse’s share of that closely held business, if there are other family members involved, those are all determinations, evaluations we need to be made, usually using some sort of an expert. Maybe a tailor shop, maybe a dry cleaning business. Maybe a concrete company, maybe a landscaping company, these are smaller businesses. Maybe one person with a couple of partners but they’re not necessarily publicly traded, they are not a Fortune 500 company. These are, you know, these are the backbone of America. These are the small mom and pop shops that keep us all running that, you know, frame our houses, that lay our driveways, that trim our trees. I mean, all these things that are necessary can be very profitable and also add to complexities, therefore, in the divorces. To speak to one of our attorneys, go to Divorce-Matters.com.
